Doubting Your Abilities

Dear Friend,

You’re not alone. If you’ve sat that and doubted every single thing you’ve ever done, every photo you’ve taken, every word you’ve said, every conversation that didn’t go well, everything, you are not alone. Every person whether they are just starting out in their business, or have been in business for 10 or more years have had those self doubts about their business and about themselves. We get so caught up in the frenzy of it all, of wanting to be like everyone else, that we forget why we started doing what we are doing now. It is so easy to forget, to get caught up and lost.

Even though I’m in a better place now at the age of 33, I still have these days.

I have those days where I want to throw in the towel. Those days where I don’t think I’m worth what I charge, or worth what I offer. Those days where I look back at a session I shot and think that wow I could have done better. Typically those thoughts creep in when I am constantly comparing myself and my work to other people. There is one thing you have to remember always, there is ONLY ONE YOU! There is only one artist, one business owner, one photographer, one person that is you. You are not comparable, because there is no one that compares to just being you. There may be people with similar interests and skills, but there will never be another you with your exact characteristics, quirks, thoughts, reflections, which all put together create a pretty amazing person. More importantly, create a set of skills and abilities that are unique to only you.

I had a friend message me on Instagram about having impostor syndrome. I did have to look that up as I didn’t know there was a term for it. But according to Psychology Today, impostor syndrome is “A psychological phenomenon in which people are unable to internalize their accomplishments.” Or in other words, you think you’re an impostor. You think you are incapable of having these accomplishments or do anything worth mentioning. It breaks my heart that anyone would feel this. As I said before, you have so much to offer everyone by just being you! How could you not have accomplishments!

There is a way to break free of that. However I will say it will not come easy. You have to want to be free of these thoughts and feelings and believe in yourself above all that you are capable of achieving greater things. If you don’t feel that you can believe in yourself enough, that’s why I’m here. I promise that I have belief enough for the both of us. I believe in you, in your business, in your success, and all you need to do is reach out! I’m a phone call, text, or e-mail away, and I am the best cheerleader!

  • Put your head down (Don’t compare yourself to others)

  • Full-Throttle (Get pumped and re-ignite that excitement you had for your business)

  • WORK! (You can find motivation and focus in other people, but only you can put in the work needed to be successful)

Cheering you on always!

With Love,

Yeisha
